Week 2 in Békéscsaba

Hi!

This was a very busy week and so much happened.

On our p-day we ate “lángos", walked on the downtown area, and saw many interesting shops as well as the big Catholic church building. It was all quite nice.

This week we visited many members and talked to them about family prayer and family home evening. We also met with inactive members who face different challenges (financial, alcohol-related, depression, etc.). Their situations are quite difficult and we can only do our best to help them be independent.

We helped one of our investigators with gardening. He wants to cut a tree, so we softened the ground around the tree and cut the roots. We used a lot of tools like spade, shovel, pike, and ax. Each tool does a different thing and it's a bit like with us. Everyone has different talents or strengths, and if everyone works with their own expertise, then we can do a good job together.

We cleaned the meeting house on Thursday, held a mission meeting, taught English classes, and then played a bit of ping pong. The Howells invited us for dinner one evening, and we ate American crapes with bacon. It was very delicious.

Funny story. Our landlord came to our apartment one morning (which is part of a house) and helped clean up, because people came to see the apartment. One néni who came was the friend of the owner and said that the house was very clean and that it was because I was Hungarian. She then talked about how the Americans put everything on a big pile and “leave the shoes on the table". We laughed so much!

After tracking we found a milk vending machine and it was pretty cool so I tried it.

Many things happened on Sunday. I conducted the priesthood executive committee (PEC) meeting then the branch council meeting, then the sacrament meeting, and taught Sunday school. It was a spontaneous lesson. Elder Howell gave me the iPad with the lesson and fortunately it went well. After that I held an interview for a release from a calling and another one to extend a new calling. Then we set apart a member to be an institute teacher. After that I consulted with László, the first counselor, about some members who are in tough situations while Elder Neumiller and Howell processed the tithing. Then we went with Elder Howell to Békés, a neighboring town where we brought the sacrament to an elderly member and shared a spiritual message. So I had to deal with a lot of branch matters on Sunday and it is very different when you're the one who is in charge.

There is much work, but I am learning a lot while having spiritual experiences in this calling.

Lots of love,

President Gonzalez :)
