Week 1 in Békéscsaba

Hi!

This week was very busy and it looked like a long day. On Wednesday we arrived in Békéscsaba, emptied out our suitcases and started to get to know the area. On Thursday, at the district meeting, we talked about goals for this transfer and got to know each other. There is an elderly couple, the Howells, and two sisters: Christiansen and Eddy. In the afternoon, Elder Howell spoke to me about church members and the responsibilities of the branch president while Elder Neumiller and Elder Szuch went tracting.

We found a service opportunity on Friday. It was for a woman who is a neighbor of a church member, so we worked on her garden twice. With a branch missionary, we went to visit a homeless  and alcoholic member at the hospital. He was in a very bad state due to withdrawal symptoms.

Elder Szuch had an
emergency transfer. Elder Lister who is Elder Miller's companion in Eger was sick and was admitted into the hospital. He probably will be there for a week. Elder Neumiller and I were still able to continue our work. It's a bit easier to work as a pair of missionaries than as a set of three and there is more space in our home now, so that's not bad. But I hope that Elder Lister will be better soon and Elder Szuch can return to Békéscsaba. Our apartment is bigger than in Kecskemét, but not as nice.

Sunday was a long day with a priesthood executive committee meeting, branch council meeting, and sacrament meeting. The members of the church are very nice here and the testimonies were good. About 20 people came. There are 2 Melchizedek priesthood holders, one deacon, and Ricsi who is now in the mission. After church, President Lázár, a counselor to our mission president, set apart László, a local member, as first counselor and gave me a blessing. I do not have to be set apart because I am a missionary (see Handbook 1). After that, he carried out the audit. Then we visited an older sister with Elder Howell and gave her a blessing, then we visited a family.

Responding to one of Papa's questions, President Szabadkai said I would be at least six months in Békéscsaba, maybe I will be "free" for my last transfer.

I am glad to serve the Lord in Békéscsaba and to help the members and investigators here.

Lots of love,
